March Break

March Break - Day 1

The plan was to go to the zoo, we weren't sure what it would be like this time of the year but decided it would be a good thing to do.  We checked the weather the night before and of course rain and a high of 8;  8 is not too bad and the rain was not suppose to start until 3pm - we(my mom, mother in law and the 6 kids) decided to go.  We wake up to rain!  What the heck, it is not suppose to rain until 3pm...  After lengthy discussions, we decide to go anyway.  Turns out we made the right decision, the zoo was empty - no crowds, no lineups it stopped raining about an hour after we got there and most of the things to see were located in the pavilions - WIN!

Miles fell asleep on the drive to the zoo and slept until about 2pm, it was perfect.  The first animal that we saw was a bald eagle, we then headed to the American zone, where we saw arctic foxes, arctic wolves, octopus, otters, monkeys, birds, etc...

The otters were Sean's favourite!

Next we headed to the African Zone, here we saw cheetahs, gorillas, baboons, hippos, birds, turtles, snakes, etc...

Monkeying around - these guys were fun to watch!

What do you see?

Our first attempt at this picture a little girl decided to stand with Ava and pose for the picture, needless to say this left Ava in tears and we had to retake the picture when the little girl left...  The drama already!

On our way to the African zone we met two zoo keepers walking Alpacas, we were able to get close and take photos, this alpaca posed by putting his chin on Ava's head, it was pretty cool!

After the African zone, Miles decided to wake up, we headed over to the cafe for lunch (a late lunch) and to feed & change Miles.  Surprisingly, the food was good and reasonably priced.  We then headed out to the Australian zone, here we saw wallabies, birds, jelly fish, frogs, snakes.  I put Miles in the front carrier and he enjoyed the fish, there was a large blue one that he was particularly fond of.

Although there were a lot of attractions closed and animals missing - What do they do with the giraffes in the winter???  it turned out to be a fantastic day.  We ended up buying a membership, so that we can come back when everything is open.  Lauren suggested we only go to the zoo on rainy days!
